The Resolute Ant

Dear lovely people,

In a field one summer's day a Grasshopper was hopping about, chirping and singing to its heart's content. An Ant passed by; bearing along with great toil an ear of corn he was taking to the nest.

"Why not come and chat with me," said the Grasshopper, "instead of toiling and moiling in that way?"

"I am helping to lay up food for the winter," said the Ant, "and recommend you to do the same."

"Why bother about winter?" said the Grasshopper; "We have got plenty of food at present." But the Ant went on its way and continued its toil.

When the winter came the Grasshopper had no food and found itself dying of hunger - while it saw the ants distributing every day corn and grain from the stores they had collected in the summer. Then the Grasshopper knew: It is best to prepare for days of need.

It is equally good to prepare for days of affluence and that is what working for your success is about. When you make plans to work for a prosperous future, you have to act on those plans daily such that when the time comes, you will rip from what you’ve sown.

You have to remember at all times that once you set out to work for such a future, you will have numerous grasshopper-like friends and other distractions lined up to derail you and if you are not resolute, foresighted and determined like the little ant, you will wallow in dejection, self-pity, pain, regret and poverty like the lazy grasshopper when time of need comes while some o your friends who were steadfast to the right course, live in bounty and distribute their blessings to others.

My NOW!

Dear lovely people,

If it has not yet occurred to you, I must tell you NOW that every single challenge, difficulty or problem you will ever face in life is a tremendous opportunity to give in, do and be your best…

I want to get that degree which will give a boost to my career. I know it will be tough going through the course but I just have to do it NOW because tomorrow might never come. I need the degree more than the obstacles along the way.

I want that salary increase cause it will be beneficial to my family and I. I know my performance at work has to increase if I really want to be granted a salary increase. I know its not going to be easy moving up the performance ladder given the competitiveness in my company but NOW is the time to do it or remain where I am complaining why others are moving up not me.

I want to start that business I have been dreaming off because it will change a lot about my lifestyle. I know the present economy and tax system in the country is not very favorable but NOW is the time to start the business and fight for it to become profitable or miss the chance of ever getting it off the ground.

I want to become the most popular philanthropist in my country because it will make me live the purpose for which I think God created me. But I know living in a country known over the years for corruption, bad governance, embezzlement and scamming, it’s going to be an uphill task. NOW is the time to work on my honesty, integrity, transparency and communicate well so the world sees us differently if I am serious about my dream.

I want to own the best and most profitable mechanic workshop in the country because it will contribute substantially to my goal of becoming financially independent. But I know it would be some monstrous work to do given the horrible and damaging image some overzealous mechanics have given the car repair business in the country. NOW is the time to set about cleaning up that bad image through dedication, improved service quality, love of the domain and trustworthiness if I am serious about pushing my plans forward.

No matter the dreams you have in life, no mater what you want or plan to do about your dreams, one thing is certain and crystal clear: Always give your best at every circumstance, never get discouraged, never be petty; always remember, others may hate you and even fight you, but those who hate or fight you don't win unless you abandon your dreams and start fighting them back.

I like what Jack Canfield has to say: “Successful people maintain a positive focus in life no matter what is going on around them. They stay focused on their past successes rather than their past failures, and on the next action steps they need to take to get them closer to the fulfillment of their goals rather than all the other distractions that life presents to them.”

I strongly believe that NOW is the best time you will ever have on your side because it helps you to focus. Staying focused can help you accomplish anything you want in life.

I Believe I Can Fly

Dear lovely people,

R. Kelly sings…

See I was on the verge of breaking down
Sometimes silence can seem so loud
There are miracles in life I must achieve
But first I know it starts inside of me, oh

If I can see it, then I can be it
If I just believe it, there's nothing to it

[Chorus:]
I believe I can fly
I believe I can touch the sky
I think about it every night and day
Spread my wings and fly away
I believe I can soar
I see me running through that open door
I believe I can fly
I believe I can fly
I believe I can fly

When R. Kelly wrote, produced and performed his “I Believe I Can Fly” song in 1996, wonder if he actually believed that although he has had two number one songs, "I Believe I Can Fly” will actually fly to become his most successful single. It topped the charts in the United Kingdom, won three Grammy Awards, and was ranked No. 406 on Rolling Stone's list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time in 2004.

I strongly think that the message in that song is direct and should appeal to those who mean business in life’s business. Even if you think about your dreams every night and day, you must know it starts inside of you as R Kelly insists. To achieve your aspirations, you’ve really got to go all in. You can’t rush things, and if there’s even a seedling of uncertainty about what you’re doing, it’s game over. But as long as your confidence is 100 percent unshakable, you should be fine; that’s commitment.

Finally, if you think about it, it’s a little embarrassing to let your friends and family know that you’re chasing after your dreams I know. It’s basically saying, “I think I’m way more awesome than my current life situation would suggest,” and that’s weird for sure. Not only that, but just think about how humiliating it would be to face all of them if and when you fail woefully.

The Last Valley

Dear lovely people,

“The moment you realize that you can have everything you want in life. However, it takes timing, the right heart, the right actions, the right passion and a willingness to risk it all. If it is not yours, it is because you really didn’t want it, need it or God prevented it.”

At dawn, Jobo was far into his journey. He was determined to experience this exceptionally beautiful land as the first from his community such that he could retell the story to the others. It was not an easy journey, the terrain was difficult with twists and turns, rugged lands, difficult woody valleys and hills to go through but Jobo was unyielding.

On the fourth day of nonstop trekking through the most difficult terrains one can imagine, Jobo was almost at his destination. He came out from a thicket with all expectation to set foot onto the ‘promised land’. Just a distance ahead was his destination but one last major obstacle separated him from that joy, that expectation of self-fulfillment. In front of him was what seemed like a bottomless gulf stretching the length of the horizon and about a kilometer wide.

Jobo came to an abrupt stop, convinced his journey had come to an untimely end. True, his destination was clearly in view ahead. He could get the fait sounds of singing birds from the distance and could tell there was abundance of life on the wonder land but how was he ever to get there after four days of trekking and the craziest risk taking?

Jobo sat there dumfounded. What was he to tell his waiting kindred on return? What about his ambition of becoming a hero, the first man to get to that land? One thing he was already sure of was that he could not cross such a frightening gulf all alone. He told himself that even if he got to the bottom of the gulf, there he was not sure to climb out the other way alive. There would certainly be wild animals; carnivores or some mysterious creatures down there just waiting have him for lunch.

You realize that Jobo was driven by a dream that propelled him forward but along the line, just when he would attain his goal, he let secondary discouraging thoughts take it away from him. Doesn't it make you wonder what could happen to your world if you listened to your heart and followed your Big Dream to finish?

Maybe your Big Dream is telling you to start a farm (because that’s where the future you seek resides). Perhaps it is telling you to start a charity organization (which will then help the lives of many).

Your Big Dream is what wakes you up in the middle of the night whispering to you about the screenplay you want to create about your life. These dreams in our hearts, they are waiting just around the corner for us yet if we don't step forward, sometimes blindly with trust, we don't see them standing there awaiting to celebrate our arrival as we round the bend. Do you wonder what will happen if you don't walk around that corner to meet the moment that is beckoning you?

You get the point? I know that inner reality creates outer results. I equally know that our willingness creates the transformation of our world. I know this because life gave me an early life of suffering before joy. Jobo’s Big Dream was short-lived because he did not round the corner owing to what he thought were laws of limitation due to historical pain and so he couldn’t step onto the “promised land”. He stood in agony on the other side across the land that epitomized his dream and separated from him by a harmless valley with a mirage of clouds and imaginary weird sounds.

In all circumstances, I can only attribute the success of any venture to a supernatural assistance from Grace, along with a resolute belief that it was possible to succeed. Jobo should serve as a teacher to many, teaching us that no matter what the dream, if our heart and soul is not in it, the limiting laws of this world will stop us from reaching the summit.

You Have It All

Dear lovely people,

Do you belief me when I say you have it all? From childhood, I wanted to be a Medical Doctor and made it known to all. Everybody around me called me Dr. My father told me what it will take to be one and so I gave it my best shot. But something happened midway during my secondary school days. I was at the accident ward in a hospital one day and saw a lot of blood. What I saw there that day, changed everything. It became clear to me that I had to think of another profession, geology was my second choice and so I switched.

When I left the university, I worked with an NGO – Gold Touch International where I was exposed to social issues and the world of development projects. Though I later on had a job in the Chad-Cameroon Pipeline project – one of Africa’s largest petroleum infrastructure development project, my newfound love for the social sciences did not leave me and so I resigned from my company at some point and found my way into UNICEF. That move at some point let me to undertake a multiyear tiresome study program for a Masters in Anthropology, then Project management and Monitoring and Evaluation.

Whether as an Anthropologist, Project Manager, or M&E Professional, I am sure I have and still perform excellently since then. You may like to know that I am currently studying for another Masters in Analysis and Evaluation of Economic Development programs. What is the point here? Despite all difficulties you face, you can become anything you want in life if you put your bones and brains to it and give it time.

Why is it so? It’s simple! You have it all coded in you by God himself as skills, gifts, blessings call it what you want. The Psalmist confirms it when he says in Psalm 139:13 “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb.” At birth, you have it all in you and the rest is 80% your personal effort at using the gifts to become what you want in life.

You will never become a successful business man for example if God did not destine you to become one. More importantly, if you don’t pull yourself through the huddles in life that MUST come your way to make that destiny come true, you will never get there. God said in Jeremiah 1:5 "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations." If Jeremiah did not give-in to God’s call, he would never have become a prophet to the nations.

Because you have it all, you should have courage to take the dive off the often dangerous cliffs of life in order to chase your dreams and why not? In any case, you have it all coded in you. Use it the right way so God will bless your motives.
