How Trendy is Success?

Dear lovely people,

Really, how trendy are the constituents of a successful life? What are the must-dos vs the glittering options on your path to success? How should you move on once faces with bone breaking obstacles and challenges on your path? Let’s see how Job handled his…

Job as a Jobless man was tired of hunting for a job. He had been turned down twenty times in the last two months and so he decided apply one more time for the position of 'office boy' at EcoPetroleum Inc. The HR manager interviewed him then watched him cleaning the floor as a test. 'You are employed' she said. Give me your e-mail address and I'll send you the application to fill in, as well as date when you should start. The Job so startled, replied 'But I don't own a computer, neither an email'. 'I'm sorry', said the HR manager. If you don't have an email, that means you do not exist. And who doesn't exist, cannot have the job.'

Job again was so disappointed, embittered and left with no hope at all. He didn't know what to do next, with only $20 in his pocket. He decided to go to the supermarket and buy a 20Kg tomato crate. He then sold the tomatoes in a door to door round. In less than two hours, he succeeded to double his capital. He repeated the operation three times, and returned home with $120. Job realized that he can survive by this way, and started to go everyday earlier, and return late. Thus, his money doubled or tripled everyday.

Shortly, he bought a van, then a truck, and then he had his own fleet of delivery vehicles. 5 years later, the man is one of the biggest food retailers in his country. He started to plan his family's future, and decided to have a life insurance. One day, he called an insurance broker, and chose a protection plan. When the conversation was concluded the broker asked him his email so he could send to him some electronic documentation. The Job in his usual tone replied, ’I don't have an email.' The broker answered curiously, 'You don't have an email, and yet have succeeded to build an empire. Can you imagine what you could have been if you had an e mail?!!' Job thought for a while, smiled victoriously and replied, 'Yes, I'd be an office boy at EcoPetroleum!'

Once you set out to carve out a place for yourself in the world of achievements, you have to know those things you must have, I mean the things you must go for and those you can do without. Job clearly demonstrated that being trendy is good but not necessarily the only way to success. He demonstrated that the internet is not the only solution to your life because even if you don’t have access to the internet, but focus and work hard, you can.

It equally stands out clearly that each time you are faced with a challenge no matter how hard it appears, dissect it and examine it painstakingly for hidden within it are a million other opportunities beaconing.

I Am a Dream Chaser

Dear lovely people,

For seven wearisome years, Lumgwen tried all she could to be an excellent Administrator, dealing with a complicated scheduling for his supervisor in the northern part of Cameroon. She decided to take on a new turn in her life. She packed her things and headed for Yaounde in pursuit of her dream—starting her own movie production business.

A friend living there had told her Yaounde would be the best place to start up because of the many opportunities it offers in terms of creating contacts. Off she went not scared of any downside. She envisioned a successful life, being her own boss and living her dream.

In Yaounde, Lumgwen lived with a friend for two months while setting up and decided shortly after to cut the cord with her friend and move out. Setting up her business took longer than anticipated. With no money coming in life got really hard on her. She was broke and broken. At one point, she had no money and no place to live. But she refused to give up. She refused to lose hope. She refused to let the feeling of despair ruin her. She refused to let the pain inside win the battle. A voice inside kept on telling her, she would make it.

One day, she read an announcement about an auditioning and went there. She was first to arrive the venue and so while waiting for things to start, she went into introspection and reflections… hmmmm pursuing dreams, how I wish it  were a smooth ride, the twists and curves one has encountered could leave you full of negative thoughts and doubting your ability to succeed. Here I am, almost accepting my situation as fate and settling for defeat.

I am a dream chaser, I will not give up yet! I have to keep my dreams alive, I have to work out a way to avoid making certain mistakes. I am the pilot, only I and I alone can take charge of my dreams and fly to places I’ve never been. Nothing lasts forever, even the harsh life I have known all so well. I should be living the dream I left my Administrator Job to pursue—producing movies on my own terms…

Just then, a hand shock her out of her contemplation to inform her that all was set for the auditioning to begin. She was surprised to realize the hall had filled up with people. She smiled to herself, raised her hands towards the skies in gratitude to God and off she went.

Row Your Boat Of Life

Dear lovely people,

In my childhood days, only the wealthy in my community could afford nursery school for their children but we were happy to start primary school (infancy 1) at five and I remember one of our most popular and common song…

Row, row, row your boat,
Gently down the stream.
Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily,
Life is but a dream.

I could not have imagined then, how subtle that song that kept us so happy and fulfilled was. Of course as you row, row, row your boat of life down the stream of life, only you can determine its direction. You are either rowing your boat of life to achievements and happiness or damnation depending on how you set out and where you set your sights.

Your boat will be rowing gently down the stream when it’s primordially clear to you that you have to fight to reach your dream and that you have to sacrifice and work hard for it.

You will move gently and merrily down the steam of life not because it’s that easy but much more because you are determined to make it irrespective of the challenges.

Remember to take along Theodore Roosevelt’s words “Far and away the best prize that life has to offer is the chance to work hard at work worth doing.”

Life might just be a dream but Langston Hughes admonishes “Hold fast to dreams, for if dreams die, life is a broken-winged bird that cannot fly.”
