Will Your Opportunity Come Just Once?

Dear lovely people,

Often, I hear people repeat this time-honored cliché opportunity knocks only once. I have all reasons to say that is not true. Actually, Opportunity knocks all the time. The only condition is that, you have to be ready for it. If the chance comes, you must have the capacity to take advantage of it.” Napoleon Hill says "Opportunity? Often it comes in the form of misfortune, or temporary defeat." So you see that if you are not equipped to see opportunities in your misfortunes or temporary defeats, it will certainly pass you by. That is why I agree with this anonymous author who said "Even when opportunity knocks, a man still has to get up off his seat and open the door."

Some people have had different life-changing opportunities at some point in their lives. But being able to take advantage of as many opportunities as possible is important. Sometimes just one opportunity can mean the difference between an extraordinary life and a mediocre one. Unfortunately, opportunities don’t last forever. But the good news is that you can take steps to make sure you don’t miss out on something truly life-changing.

“Opportunities do not come with their values stamped upon them. Everyone must be challenged. A day dawns, quite like other days; in it a single hour comes, quite like other hours; but in that day and in that hour the chance of a lifetime faces us” says Maltbie Davenport Babcock.

Taking advantage of opportunities in life starts with simply saying yes to them when they come around; give this a thought, watch out for opportunities each time you go out and meet people. You never can tell where your blessings lie. Opportunities are, by definition, short-lived. You need to be quick in order to get the most out of them. For example sometime back, I wanted to invest in a bakery business I went as far as finding a good location for the business. I spotted an excellent building to house the business and started waiting for the right moment to make the move. However, while I waited for the right time, someone else got there, paid for the building and started the same bakery business. Opportunities are not always exclusive to you. Others might be tempted to move in on them if they see them. If you hesitate, you may lose out.

Many are the times when I equally hear people saying: “It’s all fate”, “Luck is not in my side”, “According to my horoscope”, “its bad time for me.” Yes you can trust me that, it is going to be really bad time until we wake up and look for opportunities in life. As we’ve seen opportunity knocks our door many times over. But each single moment in our life comes only once and never returns. We either get them as they come or keep letting them pass by. As a matter of fact, I have come to realize there are three kinds of people in this world:

  • Firstly, there are the ones who make things happen.
  • Secondly, there are the ones who see things happen.
  •  Thirdly, there are the ones who wonder what happened?
Where do you fall? In your reflections, do keep in mind the words of George Bernard Shaw “You see things; and you say “Why?” But I dream things that never were; and I say “Why not?”
