From Under The Carpet Onto The Red-Carpet

Dear lovely people,

“Man is not what he thinks he is, he is what he hides.” ― AndrĂ© Malraux

My friend Boris is the type who sweeps almost everything under the carpet, you sure know those type of people. I've noticed a lot of people just like him, saying they keep their troubles to themselves and don't want to burden anybody. Do you ever feel like talking to somebody, when you can't handle it like a family member or friend? Does it ever eat you up inside, bother you? For me it does. So the question goes, is it okay to admit you're sad sometimes? I'm not talking about those people that are sad for silly reasons, but deep problems like financial incapacity? What do you think? Do you hide yours? Are you living under the carpet like my friend Boris?

I must tell you, hiding your difficulties or sweeping them under the carpet will only make you feel worse and it does not benefit anyone. Bottling your emotions means that it will build up and eventually explode in a lethal manner. It isn't strange or shameful if one experiences certain emotions and there is no problem in wanting to express those. Emotions are part of you, part of each human being. Talking about one's feelings or difficulties can bring much relief and ease the burden a little. It can open you up to solutions that you could never have imagined.

Albert Ellis says “The best years of your life are the ones in which you decide your problems are your own. You do not blame them on your mother, the ecology, or the president. You realize that you control your own destiny.” I strongly agree. Taking responsibility for your problems, predisposes you to taking decisive action to resolve them and that’s how progress is made. That is step one to moving from under the carpet onto the red-carpet of success.

However in taking decisive action, don't look for someone who will solve all your problems. Look for someone who will never let you face them alone. That’s true friendship and a great source of motivation.

People on the red-carpet are motivated to be in the spot light. My main motivation for staying in the spotlight is, I don't want to just be known for being involved in the things I do. I like to show the world I can do many other things and take on other grand challenges. That's my main motivation. What’s your motivation?

Moving from under the carpet onto the red carpet indicates that you are in the spotlight and not just the sidelines in a dream. When you dream that you are waiting to see a celebrity, or that you are taking pictures of famous people, you are just a part of the excitement and not at the center of it. Right now is a lucky time in your life and you should take full advantage of it by playing the protagonist in moving from under the carpet onto the red-carpet where you are center stage.
