Dear lovely people,
Stainless
steel is a generic term for a family of corrosion resistant alloy steels
containing 10.5% or more chromium. This resistance to attack is due to the
naturally occurring chromium-rich oxide film formed on the surface of the steel.
The invention and history of stainless steel is full of intrigue but also an
inspiring story of how a product changed the world in less than a century after
an acid resistant alloy was first patented in Germany 100 years ago. This alloy
was the basis for the development of austenitic stainless steels, the most
popular group of stainless steels in use today.
How is this related to your quest for success in
life? Imagine that you have the capacity to achieve all you dream off without
having to worry about negativities or challenges; imagine that you knew exactly
how to develop such a capacity. Anybody who badly desires to succeed as I
do, should develop what I call the Stainless Steel Mindset. It means actually
coating yourself with a rich blend of tools, know-how and tenets that make you
resistant to negativities that would tear many others apart. This is an
important requirement for staying focused on your success path just as the main
requirement for stainless steels is for it to be corrosion resistant. Staying
focused can help you accomplish almost anything, from studying for a degree to managing
a successful top-class business. Staying focused can help improve your
professional life, help you listen to people better, and also help you come up
with a solution to problems at a quicker speed.
A Stainless Steel
Mentality starts with finding your purpose in life. Your purpose will
keep you motivated and will therefore keep you focused. Part of the reason we
lose focus is because we can't see the point of whatever task we have to get
done and would rather be doing something else. Once you find your purpose,
write it down, or repeat it to yourself to keep your energies in the right
place. Your purpose can be the key that unlocks the door to your focus. If
you're working for example, remind yourself why your work is important, and why
the work you do really matters. If it really doesn't matter to you but is a
good means to an end, remind yourself of all the things you can buy because of
the work, or about all of the fun things you can do once your work day is over.
Remind yourself why you can’t give up on it.
You
have to pinpoint your goal as a step
towards developing a Stainless Steel Mentality. What is your goal for
completing your task? Is it to simply get done with the work day, to save up
enough money to buy a house, or to advance your career? Your goal could also be
to plan how to manage your success when it happens, or to run for 40 minutes
without giving up so you can be in better shape. The goal can be the carrot at the
end of the stick that makes the task worth doing. Important and strong
goals can build a reservoir of persistence in you.
The
Stainless Steel Mentality is incompatible with distractions. Distractions are the
enemies of focus. If you want to be able to focus fully, then you must avoid a
variety of distractions. If you can do this, then you've won half the battle
for truly being able to focus on your path to success: Don't get distracted online.
Avoid texting or g-chatting for non-work related matters while you're doing
work. Don't get distracted by other people. Don't let other people throw you
off task, whether its people in your work group, your colleague, or your friend
who is always asking for favors. Put the personal stuff off until after you get
your work done. Don't get distracted by your surroundings.
Very often, people
look for ideas that will bring them glory, riches and respect, but rare are
those who find such exceptional ideas. In fact, experience shows us that it is
not those that have better ideas who reap in the most success in the long term,
but mostly the people who act with regularity, tenacity and perseverance in
their actions, these are all intrinsic ingredients of a stainless steel
mentality.
