At The Potter’s House

Dear lovely people,

Excuse me, what I believe in is not the subject of this post but in Jeremiah 18:3-6 (NIV), I read: So I went down to the potter’s house, and I saw him working at the wheel. But the pot he was shaping from the clay was marred in his hands; so the potter formed it into another pot, shaping it as seemed best to him. Then the word of the Lord came to me. He said, “Can I not do with you, Israel, as this potter does?” declares the Lord. “Like clay in the hand of the potter, so are you in my hand, Israel.”

Wow! While Jeremiah looks upon the potter's work, God darts into his mind two great truths. God has authority, and power, to form and fashion kingdoms and nations as he pleases. Do you see what I am driving at? So what if I tell you that just like the potter does the clay, you have all it takes to shape your dreams, your life or whatever it is your fondest dream is to what you truly desire. You have the authority, and power, to form and fashion your life and dreams as it pleases you.

It becomes clear that God may dispose of us as he thinks fit; and it would be as absurd for us to dispute this, as for the clay to quarrel with the potter. But he always goes by fixed rules of justice and goodness. You have the capacity to dispose of any habit or activity that drains your energy and prevents you from realizing your dreams if you play by the requisite set of rules. Is it your lack of focus? Bad influence from friends? Or your indifference to God?

God explains that if he says he will destroy a city, and they repent, he will stop and not destroy it. And if he says that he will build up a city and help them prosper and then they turn away, refusing to listen to him, he will stop helping them as well. Same goes for those who make great plans to conquer and then resort to doing the wrong things so they never get what they want in life. We have to clearly understand that the choices we make in life, matter to the Lord, and that what we choose to do can change things why not, it is written in Proverbs 16:1-3 We may make our plans, but God has the last word. You may think everything you do is right, but the Lord judges your motives. Ask the Lord to bless your plans, and you will be successful in carrying them out.

Therefore, remaking ourselves isn't hopeless, even though it is hard to see sometimes how we can affect society, or even change something about ourselves that has become deep-rooted. God says to us, yes, it is hard. But remember that you have me, and I am the potter.  I can remake you.  And I can help you remake yourself, if you want it and if you ask for it

None of us is beyond his reach.  If we take action towards the right path, bend our knees and pray for his help in our lives, to change and become better people, to overcome our habits, stereotypes or addictions, to triumph over our personality flaws, whatever it is that we desire to change about ourselves in a good way, God will help us.

Get it straight! That doesn't mean that it will become easy for us. If it were easy we probably wouldn't take it seriously, we'd just think, "oh, how easy so I won't worry about messing my life up again." But given your resolute dedication to change for the better and with God, even though it doesn't become easy, it becomes always possible. Even on our worst days, he will help us stand, and help us make the effort to change.  Just like the message to Jeremiah at the potter’s house, let's turn to him for help, and become who we want to be rather than who we feel trapped into being.
