Raise Your Crossbow First

Dear lovely people,

The best thing ever happened to Melisa that evening. Sitting in an exquisite restaurant and dressed in the best of her outfits, she gazed at the best thing that ever happened in her life. Melisa observed with all admiration a breathtaking marriage proposal that Bradson staged before her disbelieving eyes. Yes! It happened. After all the waiting and prayers, there she was holding the hands of her future husband, the man she’d been longing to be hers for the past five years. Time they say breaks even rocks.

They had one year to prepare for their wedding. Going by Melisa that was no time compared to the five years she had been in waiting. Bradson dominated their discussions with details of all the great things they would do by the time they walk down the aisle. They separated the next morning, Bradson traveling down south to clear-out a container of goods that had arrived the port.

Belief it or not, it’s been two unbearable years and Melisa has not set eyes on Bradson and will never do again. She received the most devastating message of her life just two days after she separated with Bradson. He died in a ghastly car accident on his way down south. Melisa since then, has never been herself again. She’s given up on everything and is almost losing everything. Her business has suffered tremendously, she’s been repeatedly admitted to hospital and has been acting strange for the last couple of months. Melisa says the one reason she was living is dead and so is she. She wonders aloud all the times whey God is still keeping her alive. She has considered suicide on several occasions, she has thrown herself off a one floor building and yet she is still alive.

We all face horrible situations in life sometimes even worse than Melisa but is that enough reason to give up? Is that enough reason to invite untimely death? Is that enough reason to forget that you had great dreams in life for your life before what happened? I know how difficult it can be, I know how terrible you may feel at such moments especially when you are convinced that the life you live is not worth it anymore but at the same time, I must say that it’s never over with you until God your creator says so.

Have you read through Ezekiel 37 in the Bible? If you do, you will come across a dialogue between God and Prophet Ezekiel regarding the dry bones. The scenario is in a graveyard. It is a place of no return, a dead end, a valley of dry bones, no signs of life. It signifies a people whose dream and hope has died for a long time, no future and there is no hope of rescue. But, the Lord asked Ezekiel what He is still asking you about your desolate situation today: ‘Can the dry bones live?’ Ezekiel looked at the dry bones, he saw no life, no signs of movement, no solution, they were dead for long and could not help themselves and nobody could help including Ezekiel. All he said was ‘Lord, you know’ Ezekiel meant that the reality of what was on the ground, to him only God knew whether a hopeless situation was going to be turned around.

Only God knows if you are going to be successful, God knows if you are going to be promoted, God knows if Melisa is going to get back on her feet once again. Only He knows if your efforts are going to yield the desired fruits. But then, you alone have the responsibility to do and be your best before leaving the rest to God. If you don’t set the pace, He will not do it for you. If Melisa does not muster the courage to get out of her doldrums, God will not do it in her place.

Here is the bottom line: Before God can enable you to shoot precisely at your target, you’ve got to raise your crossbow and aim at it first.
