Your Fulcrum Of Success

Dear lovely people,

Early that morning, Sabina carried a ladder to the church wall. She climbed up as fast as she could and after a tiresome climb onto the little platform, she looked around eagerly to see the magnificent one-in-the-world scenery of the country side the old man told them about the previous evening. As she started to perambulate the platform getting used to the huge disappointment of seeing nothing other than a derelict and lifeless hill staring back at her, she unknowingly stepped on a weak spot on the platform and that’s how she went crashing down into a dark room below. It was a dejected Sabina who left the church building later and hopping on one leg due to the sprain she sustained in the process of falling. She was heading home to tell the old man how disappointed she was.

Truth be told, Sabina unknowingly took her ladder to the wrong church building and consequently, the wrong wall and so could not see what the old man told her about. Who is to blame? This is exactly what happens to the many who use the wrong approaches in their quest for success. A great dream and an excellent plan will not get you to success if you don’t personally link the two with concerted, directed and informed action. So, “When climbing the ladder of success, make sure it’s leaning against the right building.”

One way of achieving this is to create what I have called a Fulcrum Of Success (FOS). Your FOS will be made up of your family, friends, mentors, colleagues, or anyone who wholeheartedly supports you and wants to see you succeed. Their much needed assistance is often packaged in a number of ways:
  • Firstly, you can be motivated by the simple knowledge that you have a solid FOS beside and behind you at all times.
  • There is a lot you get to learn from the experiences and backgrounds of the people in your FOS.
  • The people in your FOS can cheer you on when you face challenges in the process of working towards your goals.
  • You can be held accountable by your FOS for doing what you say you want to do.
  • Your FOS can provide a perspective that's different from your own.
  • Your FOS can help you celebrate your successes.
These are some of the things we often take for granted by that are central to our quest for a better and fulfilling life here on earth.
