Keep Moving and You’ll Get There

I will keep moving and I am sure to get there.
Dear loving people,

Have you heard of the quote “don’t be afraid to run fast only to stand still”? I don't remember the author but there is truth in it, do reflect on it.

Accepting to change directions and to accept imperfection is an ingredient of the success personality. During your everyday process, it's important to keep moving forward, even when the situation is not what you expect it to be.

Although your path may change and your progress may seem minimal, the only way to reach your goal is to keep taking it step-by-step and piece-by-piece. Every time you complete a little step, you are getting closer to achieving your goal, and as long as you continue to move forward you are on the path to success.

Part of successful goal setting is tracking how far you've come. Not only can this be a great motivator, but it can also help you plan future goals and action steps, monitoring and evaluation experts (I am proud to be one) will tell you; that is the fulcrum of it all.

You can track your progress by conducting weekly and/or monthly goal check-ins that help you evaluate what you have accomplished and where you need to focus more of your attention. It may also be helpful for you to create milestones based on time and progress so you can easily tell if you're on track for reaching your goal.

Effective goal setting requires clarity about what the goal involves, knowledge on what type of effort will be required, and specific reasons why the goal is important to you. It also includes a plan for how you will accomplish each step, and perhaps most importantly, a commitment to seeing the goal through to completion.

If you are unable to commit to the goal by taking time to develop a plan, and scheduling the time to focus on the action steps that will bring you closer to your goal, you will face an unnecessarily difficult challenge.

You can create what I call a Fulcrum Of Success (FOS) to help you reach your goals. Your FOS could be made up of your family, friends, mentors, colleagues, or anyone who supports you and wants to see you succeed. Their assistance could be packaged in a number of ways:
  • You can be motivated by the knowledge that you have a solid FOS behind you
  •  You can learn from the experiences and backgrounds of your FOS.
  • Your FOS can cheer you on when you face challenges in the process.
  • You can be held accountable by your FOS for doing what you say you want to do.
  • Your FOS can provide a perspective that's different from your own.
  • Your FOS can help you celebrate your successes.
In all of this, you must keep it at the center of your mind that the responsibility to succeed or fail lies primordially in your hands and none others.

  1. This is just owesome. To know that we should expect so much from our FOS or that they have this much to offer us.The road to success is truelly not easy but we all can make it if we decide to, if you can only tell yourself you can then you will. This was a great article Abongta

  2. Thank you, there is no denying the fact that a FOS is indispensable in the line of duty of any success oriented person. Sidestepping this fact can have undesired consequences. If you don’t define the right FOS, the wrong one will step in and off the rails you go. The wrong FOS could be your drunkard friends, societal pressures and niceties etc. It was said that having no plan is actually planning to fail.
