At
youth, many people fear to venture, risk taking surprisingly in the right
direction (studies) is scaring and even mummifying to some but we know so well how
often youths do venture into terrains that most of the times lead them to
destruction (pregnancies that become ‘unwanted’, abortions, drugs etc). If only
such energy could be invested in carving out a place for themselves in the
upper circles of profound success.
Probably,
it was reflections as these that compelled Confucius (551 BC-479 BC) to make
the statement “Be not ashamed of mistakes and thus make them crimes.” No
matter how bad the past has been, we need to and we have to move on
even after making such grievous mistakes in life. We are compelled to learn
from them and to Move On.
For
those of us in our youth, we should strive to cover grounds while the sun
shines. Arthur Schopenhauer (1788-1860) supported this view when he said “The
memory should be specially taxed in youth, since it is then that it is
strongest and most tenacious. But in choosing the things that should be
committed to memory the utmost care and forethought must be exercised; as
lessons well learnt in youth are never forgotten.”
All
hope is not lost for those in adulthood, for it’s said “it’s never too late to start again”. Ronald Reagan understood this
perfectly and that’s why after failing in all that he did, he succeeded in one
that was becoming the President of the United States.
I
tell you, there is no age for millions to stuff your account and I think moving
on in caution, it will not be too bad if I conclude with this wise teaching of Abraham
Lincoln (1809-1865) “I have always found that mercy bears richer fruits than strict
justice.”
Move
on! And remain blessed as you recommit yourself to the quest for better days
