When You Believe

Dear lovely people,

I love this inspirational duet by the two music idols Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston:
“…Who knows what miracles
You can achieve
When you believe somehow you will
You will when you believe…”

Over a decade ago, I worked in one of Africa’s largest petroleum infrastructure development project – The Chad-Cameroon Pipeline Project. In my Company, a typical day started with a get-together briefing session termed the toolbox-meeting. A toolbox meeting was occasion to discuss current issues, work related security and team-building topics. All workers in each department got together during toolbox meetings as a great way to start the day together.

So in one of the teams, there was this young man Ambenor who suffered constant humiliation from his peers and even seniors simply because of his strong and unyielding believe in God. Ambenor was resolute and unbending in his trust and faith in God because he had clearly understood that his growth in whatever domain in life was dependent on God’s grace.

One day, the Foreman of his team decided to humiliate him before the rest of the team members. He called Ambenor out during a toolbox meeting and said: “Young man, take this key and go park my pickup truck in front” pointing to a spot just ahead of where they were holding the meeting. Ambenor replied politely: “Sorry Sir, I cannot drive at the moment but promise to in the weeks ahead!” The captain went on: “But then ask for assistance from your God! Show us that He Exists!”

Ambenor took the key and walked to the vehicle, praying fervently the whole time....As a result he parked the pickup truck at the place perfectly well as the Foreman wanted. When Ambenor came out of the truck, he saw the entire team crying. They all said together: “We want to serve your God!” Ambenor was more than astonished, he wanted to know what was going on.

The Foreman was crying hysterically, and he opened the hood of the truck showing Ambenor that the car had no engine. They had gone all the way to remove the engine just to humiliate Ambenor and his God. Then Ambenor in humility said: “See? This is the God I serve, the God who gives life to what does not exist.

Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston continue to sing:
 “…There can be miracles
When you believe
Though hope is frail
It’s hard to kill…”

As you invite God this Christmas season as well as any other time to bless your plans and your dreams, NEVER ever think there are things that are still impossible, believe and act and your miracle will be on its way. The God of Impossibilities that we all serve will be your God today and for ever more.
