Dear lovely people,
We
are products of our past but I equally know many people who have become prisoners
of their past. If you believe in the beauty of your dreams and in the value of
life, you will dwell less on the past and concentrate more on guaranteeing the
future.
These
are precepts that Bekolo failed to understand. He had a habit of picking-up and carrying stones about to represent every event that occurred in his life,
whether good or bad. Every day he sorted out his stones, laughed while remembering
joyful events, and cried while remembering the sad ones.
Bekolo
carried his stones with him to wherever he went and never forgot them on any occasion.
The years passed by and Bekolo had collected so many stones but he still
painstakingly sorted them, remembering his past. It was becoming more and more
difficult for Bekolo to move around freely given the weight of the stones and it got to a point where he could not leave his house again.
The
once free and jubilant Bekolo could no longer enjoy his liberty nor travel as
before thus, lived a sedentary life. Bekolo endured all the hardships, guarding
his precious memories until the day he died of starvation and thirst. Only a
pathetic bunch of worthless stones where left for a very long time to remind
the world of his miserable life.
“Life is thickly sown with thorns, and I know no other
remedy than to pass quickly through them. The longer we dwell on our
misfortunes, the greater is their power to harm us.” - Voltaire
