The Lot of Passive Dreamers

Dear lovely people,

The all-smiles Ngwache stepped onto the podium. The best thing ever was about happening before his very eyes. He was about to become the Managing Director of Summit Holdings - one of the most powerful group of companies in the country. He looked around, everybody was smiling and in total support for him. His parents were standing not far from him with all imprints of satisfaction on their faces. Then the voice of the Board chair brought him back to the moment, “…and here are the keys to Summit Holdings” said the brawny Chair. Just as Ngwache stretched his hands to collect the glittering keys, he heard the voice of his wife calling him from behind and shaking his shoulders. As he turned to face her, he woke up to realize it was a dream.

The time on the bedside clock read 2:00 am. His wife was actually jabbing him on the side. “You’ve been laughing and making some crazy gestures in your dream, what is it all about? Asked the surprised wife. “So it was all a dream” Ngwache thought aloud “well let’s talk in the morning my dear, looks like I am having a terrible headache” said the slumbering Ngwache going back to sleep.

Ngwache has a GCE Advanced Level Certificate and a Diploma in Project Management. He currently serves as Project Assistant at Summit Holdings and has been coveting the position of Managing Director. Ngwache’s growth path is lined with difficulties most of which were self-imposed for example during his school days, he squandered his school fees twice and consequently did not sit-in for some major examinations. He is full of inertia; not only does he procrastinate but is not the least proactive. That is the kind of person fantasizing to become the new boss of Summit Holdings, a world-class organization. It will not be an overstatement to call him a passive dreamer right?

In my cupboard are six screenplays set for shooting which represents the passionate scriptwriter I think I am, but which now gathers dust with every passing moment, and so does my dream of ever becoming a leading scriptwriter. This is to say that it’s not just about Ngwache. I strongly believe everyone, like me has some dream that needs dusting before it is suffocates, or simply dies from neglect.

Guess what, the passive dreamer is one of the most disappointing things about our society today. They have dreams as big as the world itself, but no drive at all to pursue them. I read that a dream is just an idea until you put passion behind it.

The world of success belongs to active dreamers because they dream while awake. Active dreamers talk and walk their dreams, they bring energy and guidance from the dream-world into everyday life. Passive dreamers on the other hand, dream in their sleep and most often, that is where their dreams end.

The choice and the responsibility to be an active or passive dreamer is yours and yours alone.
